Any suggestions about exercise?
I am 32, male, 5'11", 230lbs. I am ready to commit to a lifestyle change. I just bought a Home Gym, eleptical machine, and an ab lounger. I just went to the store and bought all kinds of healthy food, fruits, veggies, ect... I also bought some Whey protein for me to drink after working out. I plan on working out every morning M-F and rest on the weekends. I already get up at 5am. I have about a hour and a half to exercise. I plan on doing the eleptical for a half hour everyday, and do the ab lounger everyday, and work on my upper body M-W-F, and my lower body T-Th. I have a weekly planner for the exercise's, how many reps, the weight's and so on. I have another weekly planner for me to write down everything I eat. I plan on drinking about a gallon of water daily. I want to start this on Monday 12/3/07. I just want to know if there is anything I am forgeting or any suggestions for making this thing work. I know this is going to be an overnight thing. I am in it for life
Go for it, good for you.
A suggestion or 2: First, this is a lifestyle choice, so there is no end date. Why the startdate? Just get up already and exercise. Second, you cannot buy health and fitness. All this shopping and buying. No need. Jog, pushups, situps, stretch, pull up bar in the corner of a room, squats, a few used dumbells, anything. You should just start exercising and as you run into areas of concern, solve them. Some of those concerns may need to be solved by equipment, some by diet or supplements. How do you know till you go. You didn't mention why you are doing this. Motivation is the biggest factor behind successful lifestyle changes. Once I knew getting exercise was going to be the solution I wanted to try, there was no picking a start day, I just started and that was it.
I am 6', 45 and now 168lbs. 6 months ago I was 190lbs, not tragically overweight but enough for me to feel uncomfortable. I started running and just didn't stop. I know, insert Forrest Gump joke here. But it is true. I figured out I was uncomfortable at night and didn't like it. I was unhappy with all my pants so tight. I didn't like the double chin and how it made me look 60. I was starting to have stomach irritations. All things pointed to needing exercise. So I started to run. First 2mi each day (1 rest day a week), then 2.5, then 3, then 3.5 and now I am on 4. I just do it. I don't think about it. I started to get sore knees so I bought glucosamine supplements and new running shoes. This helped. I think I feel so good I will still be running 10 years from now.
Don't wait, don't buy anything more, just do. Don't be too concerned about reps, and weights, and logs and food. Just exercise and feel good and keep doing it. Over time you will just stop sweating the small stuff. It's all small stuff.
