Alternative way to captain's chair exercise?

So I have one of those towers of energy or to-do bar arm chair Captain. Nor have straps to hang on my chinning bar. Do you think if I just hang out at the bar chin-up and start making captain's chair would work? Would there be any adverse effect on my shoulders?

If you simply hang from a bar and start to bring your knees toward your chest (make sure not to use any time ...), then you will get the same results if not better.
