The radiation therapist operates the machine but the patient is being treated by a TEAM.
The radiation team consists of a radiation oncologist who is the MD in charge of deciding on the area to be treated and if the dose should be curative or palliative.
The radiation physicist and dosimetrist, help plan the dose and the angles at which it will be delivered.
The radiation therapist operates the machine based on the prescription created by the dosimetrist and MD. The radiation therapist and dosimetrist work with the MD during the simulation or mapping of the treatment.
Radiation nurses may help with the simulation, do the patient education, and help the MD manage symptoms.
