Overweight police officers and physical fitness tests?

I am taking an opinion poll for one of my classes and was wondering do you think that police officers should have to pass an annual physical fitness test to remain on the force? In my state there seems to be a lot of older overweight officers that I don't think would be able to keep up with some people on foot. What are your thoughts?

Yes. My State requires you to pass something called the POPAT in order to get your certification. It is strenuous but reasonable. If I had it my way we would have to pass it every year but I'm not in charge. I would at least like to see some sort of monetary incentive like tying your fitness level to your raise.

I'm in good shape and run at least one marathon a year. I don't expect my fellow Officers to stay in that good of shape but I would like for there to be some sort of incentive to stay in shape.
